John Wagner to compete at 2016 FBLA-PBL National Leadership Conference

2016 May 13

John Wagner, a UW-Whitewater junior information technology major from Ixonia, Wis., will compete at the 2016 Future Business Leaders of America Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) National Leadership Conference.

The event, held in Atlanta, Georgia, June 24-27, will feature students competing in open events relevant to leadership in various fields, in addition to workshops and networking opportunities.

Students selected for this conference first had to compete at the spring conference held at UW-Whitewater Mar. 4-5.

"We had people compete in computer science, interviewing, public speaking, marketing decision and analyzing, networking concepts, contemporary sport issues and retail management," said chapter president Sabrina Hookstead.

Students were judged on their composure, knowledge, persuasiveness and overall presentation of their selected topics. To qualify for nationals, students had to place in the top 3 in their category.

"FBLA-PBL is open to all majors so that's what makes us unique. We pride ourselves on our community service, we focus on higher education, helping out our fellow companions and making sure that they're successful. We pride ourselves on education, service, and progress as future leaders after we graduate from school," said Hookstead.
