Jessica Sabey headed to WIAC tourney with volleyball squad

2012 Oct 31

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team finished the 2012 regular season by winning second place in conference. The team is ranked eighteenth in the nation.

The Warhawks, now 24-10, will compete in the WIAC Tournament Nov. 2-3 in Stevens Point. As the No. 2 seed in the tournament, UW-Whitewater earns a bye in the first round and will face the winner of the matchup between UW-Stout (No. 6) and UW-Eau Claire (No. 3).

Jessica Sabey, a freshman biology major from Merrill, Wis., contributed to the team's success.

"During the season, these girls are my family," said Ben Staupe, assistant coach. "Being on the team helps you develop as an athlete and person, and the experience offers lifelong memories."

Besides being aggressive on the court, the UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team positively contributes to the community, and the world. The team has donated free volleyball lessons and equipment to local middle schools, and traveled to Costa Rica to help with an afterschool program for underprivileged children.
