Jefferson Native Brom Named All-WIAC in Women's Track and Field at UW-Whitewater

Amanda Brom, a physical education major and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team, was one of several student-athletes who garnered All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors at the WIAC Outdoor Championships on May 1-2.

Event winners at the championships are selected to the first team, runners-up are tabbed second team and third-place finishers receive honorable mention.

The Warhawks placed fifth at the outdoor meet and are currently ranked eighth in the nation by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Junior Amy Kahl (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal record and team season best time of 11:31.79. The 4x800-meter relay team of junior Megan Buse (Franklin, Wis./Oak Creek), senior captain Amanda Brom (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson), junior Sarah Kasiurak (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) and freshman Olivia Woyak (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) placed third with a time of 9:22.16.

On the second day, senior Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, Ill./Township) won the 400-meter dash with a meet record and team season best time of 55.08 seconds. She is now a five-time conference outdoor champion and a first time title winner in the 400.

Sondgeroth also placed third in the 200-meter dash in a team season best time of 24.34.

Senior Megan Buse (Franklin, Wis./Oak Creek), senior captain Shelby Mahr (Boyd, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) and sophomore Genny Rose Stringer (Assumption, Ill./Assumption) each finished second in their respective events. Buse was runner-up in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:45.65, and Mahr was second in the shot put with a team season best mark of 48-01.25. Stringer was runner-up in the discus throw with a 145-06.

Senior captain Amanda Brom (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) was third in the 800-meter run with a team season best of 2:13.42. Junior Candice Wayne (West Bend, Wis./West), Brom, sophomore Leah Richter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) and Buse combined to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay with a team season best time of 3:54.43.

UW-Whitewater competes in a pair of qualifying meets this weekend before heading to St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., on May 21-23 for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
