Jazmin Wilson to present at UW-Whitewater Undergraduate Research Day

2017 Sep 22

Jazmin Wilson, from Racine, WI, is among the student undergraduate researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater who will present their projects at the James R. Connor University Center Hamilton Room on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

These 68 students have worked for a year or more with their faculty mentors and are ready to present their research to other students, faculty, and the public.

Wilson, who is studying at UW-Whitewater, will be presenting Urban Agriculture as a Business.

Various research from the social sciences, natural sciences, education, and the arts will be presented on this day. All students can take part in the program, regardless of their majors.

"Undergraduate Research Day is a campus-wide event that engages the entire university community. We are really proud of our brilliant students who have been doing all of this excellent work. It gives them professional development opportunities, and there is a lot to be gained by faculty, too - students bring fresh, innovative ideas and perspectives to the work that faculty are doing, so it's a mutually beneficial relationship," said LaVar Charleston, assistant vice chancellor of student diversity, engagement and success.

Undergraduate Research Day has become more than just a celebration of research, Charleston said. It's also about the faculty commitment to students and the strong relationships built between students and their mentors.

"That mentor and mentee relationship is a critical component of the Ungraduated Research Program in general and a part of the culture at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater," he said.

The Undergraduate Research Program at UW-Whitewater is coordinated by the Office of Student Diversity, Engagement and Success.
