Greenfield's Arteaga Tabbed Scholar All-America for UW-Whitewater Swimming

Sarah Arteaga, a native of Greenfield, WI, graduate of Whitnall High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's swimming and diving team, were selected Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America based on their performances during the 2016-17 season.

Junior Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West) was tabbed CSCAA Scholar All-America, and senior Sarah Arteaga (Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) was selected honorable mention Scholar All-America.

Matthys claimed her third straight conference championship in the 100-yard butterfly, finished as runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke and helped the 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams place second. She placed 20th in the 100 fly at the NCAA Championships and also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard freestyle. Matthys also set school records in the 50 free and 100 fly during the 2016-17 season.

Arteaga earned All-WIAC honors in the 400-yard individual medley, 800-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay. Her 400 IM time of 4:32.89 from the WIAC Championships is a school record and was a 2017 NCAA "B" cut.

To be recognized as a Scholar All-American, student-athletes must have recorded a GPA of 3.50 or above and must have participated in their respective national championship meet. To achieve honorable mention status, student-athletes must have posted a GPA of 3.50 or above and tallied an NCAA "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.

Arteaga is majoring in human resource management at UW-Whitewater.
