Green Bay's Mason of UW-Whitewater Football Tabbed All-Region

Vince Mason, a native of Green Bay, WI, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, was one of nine Warhawks selected to the D3football.com All-West Region Team.

Senior offensive lineman Tony Koepnick (Sussex/Hamilton), senior defensive lineman Brandon Tamsett(Waterford/Waterford-Union) and sophomore offensive lineman Nate Trewyn (Janesville, Wis./Milton) were selected to the first team.

Senior tight end Brent Campbell (Rockford, IL/Winnebago), senior defensive lineman John Flood (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond-Burton Community), senior offensive lineman Austin Jones (Madison, Wis./Memorial)and senior defensive back Vince Mason (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) garnered second team honors, and junior linebacker Matt Seitz (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and sophomore running back Drew Patterson (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) earned third team accolades.

The Warhawks finished the 2016 season with a 12-1 record, including a perfect 7-0 mark in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. UW-Whitewater won its 35th WIAC championship and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the 11th time in the last 12 years.

Tamsett, the 2016 WIAC Defensive Player of the Year and a first team All-WIAC selection, ranks second in the conference with 12.0 tackles for a loss. He finished his final campaign with 48 tackles, the most of any defensive lineman on the team, and tied for the team lead with 5.0 sacks. Tamsett was a second team all-region pick in 2015.

Koepnick, Treywn, Campbell and Jones helped block for the Warhawks' potent offense, which averaged 34.8 points per game and nearly 200 rushing yards per contest. The team currently ranks eighth in the nation in turnover margin (plus-1.69 per game) and 19th in total first downs (275). Koepnick, Trewyn and Campbell were tabbed first team all-conference, while Jones garnered second team accolades.

Last season, Jones was named first team all-region, and Koepnick was tabbed second team.

Campbell also finished the season with 16 receptions for 183 yards and three touchdowns, including a 23-yarder in last Saturday's quarterfinal against John Carroll (Ohio).

Flood ranked second among the team's defensive linemen with 27 tackles, including 5.0 for a loss and three sacks. The first team All-WIAC selection was a semifinalist for both the Gagliardi Trophy and the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy.

Mason totaled 53 tackles and ranks among the WIAC's top five in interceptions (6) and passes defended (13), while Seitz finished second on the team with 64 tackles, including 7.0 for a loss, and ranks third in the league with three fumbles recovered. Both earned first team All-WIAC honors.

Patterson, a first team all-conference pick, finished the season with 1,125 rushing yards, becoming the program's 15th 1,000-yard rusher in the last 17 seasons. He posted 19 touchdowns (15 rushing) and currently ranks 10th in NCAA Division III in total touchdowns and total points scored (114).
