2016 Dec 19

Vince Mason, a native of Green Bay, WI, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, was one of five Warhawks to garner All-America accolades from two organizations.

Senior offensive lineman Tony Koepnick (Sussex/Hamilton), senior defensive back Vince Mason (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) and senior defensive lineman Brandon Tamsett (Waterford/Waterford-Union) were tabbed second team All-America, and senior offensive lineman Austin Jones (Madison, Wis./Memorial) earned honorable mention All-America from D3football.com.

Senior defensive lineman John Flood (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond-Burton Community) was named a first team All-American on the Associated Press Little All-America Team.

All five players helped the Warhawks finish with a 12-1 record, the team's 10th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in the last 12 years and the program's 11th trip to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs in the last 12 years.

Flood, a first team All-WIAC pick and Gagliardi Trophy semifinalist, tallied 27 tackles, including 5.0 for a loss, and recovered one fumble. He also collected second team D3football.com All-West Region honors and finished his standout career with 100 tackles, including 28.5 for a loss and 14.5 sacks.

Tamsett, who earlier this week was selected a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association, tallied 48 tackles, including a team-best 12.0 for a loss and five sacks, and added one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The WIAC Defensive Player of the Year, Tamsett also garnered first team All-WIAC and first team D3football.com All-West Region accolades.

Koepnick, also a second team AFCA All-American, started nine games at offensive tackle for UW-Whitewater. He was named first team all-conference and first team D3football.com All-West Region after helping the Warhawks average nearly 35 points and 200 rushing yards per game.

Mason ranked among the league's top five in passes defended (13) and interceptions (6). The first team All-WIAC and second team All-West Region honoree ranked fourth on the team with 53 tackles, including a team-leading 47 solo stops.

Jones started 10 games at guard for UW-Whitewater. He earned second team all-conference and all-region honors.
