Franklin's Porter Qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships at UW-Whitewater

2017 Mar 7

Meredith Porter, a native of Franklin, Wis., and graduate of Whitnall High School, is one of six members of the No. 10 ranked Warhawk women's track and field to officially qualify for the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Championship meet will take place this Friday and Saturday, March 10-11 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

Porter is majoring in chemistry at UW-Whitewater.

In recent NCAA championship history, the Warhawk women placed fourth as a team in 2014 and fifth in 2015, and a strong group of qualifiers for this year's championship will look to help the Warhawks return to a top-five finish as a team.

Leading the way for the Warhawk women is the 4x400 relay team of senior Meredith Porter (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall), senior Leah Richter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), junior Enyo Amet (Racine, Wis./Prairie), and freshman Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran). Their school record qualifying time of 3:50.93 gives them the No. 2 seed heading in to the championship. They will look to become just the second Warhawk indoor relay team to ever earn All-American honors and the first since 1994.

Porter and Richter have also each qualified in an individual event. Porter qualified in the 400 meter dash as the No. 6 seed with her school record qualifying mark of 56.69. Richter qualified in the pole vault, and her qualifying mark of 12-5.5 (3.80 meters) enters the championship as the No. 7 seed.

Freshman Celeste Madda (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) has qualified in the 200-meter dash. She is the no. 6 seed with her qualifying time of 25.23.

Rounding out the Warhawk women's national qualifiers is senior and All-American Amanda Strupp (Slinger, Wis./Slinger), qualifying in the weight throw. Eighth at last year's indoor championship, Strupp enters this year's championship as the No. 8 seed with her qualifying mark of 59-0.25 (17.99 meters).

The 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will officially begin at North Central College on Friday, March 10 at 10 a.m. The Championship meet will be streamed online both days at ncaa.com.
