Emily Ottinger from Kenosha, Wis., majoring in theatre, helped stage the production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

In the musical, a group of six mid-pubescent students compete in the spelling championship of a lifetime. It is a fast-paced crowd pleaser that incorporates audience participation.

Ottinger was a stagemanager for the production.

"This musical is unique because it knowingly makes fun of itself while keeping the heart in the right place," said guest director, Ken Williams. "It is very funny, and yet through the zany characters and outlandish situations it still can tug at your emotions. It was an absolute blast working with these students and the UW-Whitewater staff and faculty. What an experience."
