Derrick Amrhein awarded international scholarship from UW-Whitewater

2013 Dec 12

In the era of globalization, future educators need to prepare themselves for the diverse teaching environment ahead. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater College of Education and Professional Studies recognizes this, and has awarded scholarships for students to travel and teach abroad.

Derrick Amrhein, a senior physical education major from Waukesha, Wis., has been awarded an international scholarship.

The scholarships range from $200-$400, and are open to any student with the intention to study abroad. The programs vary by location and are supervised by faculty throughout the entire preparation phase.

Amrhein will travel to Jamaica for the spring 2014 semester.

"Students that teach abroad can discover new and effective ways to educate in the classroom," said Melanie Agnew, the college's assistant dean. "Developing cross-cultural skills is just something that can't be done without actually going to experience the different environment firsthand."
