DePere Native Pierce Named Academic All-District by CoSIDA

2015 May 11

Mikole Pierce, a DePere, WI, native and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team, has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 NCAA Division III first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Pierce, a general business major and graduate of DePere High School, helped lead the Warhawks to their third consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins Wednesday in La Crosse, Wis.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.30 cumulative GPA, been of sophomore standing and appeared in at least 50 percent of their team's games.

Pierce has been a mainstay in the starting lineup for UW-Whitewater in each of the last three seasons. He currently leads the team in runs (43), runs batted in (45), doubles (15), triples (3), home runs (9), total bases (108), walks (28) and slugging percentage (.701). A D3baseball.com Preseason All-American, Pierce is batting .390 for the year.

In 2014, Pierce was tabbed an All-American by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association, D3baseball.com Midwest Region Player of the Year and WIAC Co-Position Player of the Year. He helped lead the Warhawks to the NCAA Division III national championship, ranking among national leaders in batting average (.435), hits (84), runs scored (62), RBIs (64) triples (8), homers (9) and total bases (136).

Pierce was a 2013 first team All-WIAC pick after hitting .391 with 16 doubles, six home runs and a team-best 48 RBIs.

In addition to his on-field performance, Pierce has been involved as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters in the area. He is a two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member and a 2015 Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete.

By virtue of selection to first team Academic All-District, Pierce is eligible to be named Academic All-America. Honorees will be released later this month.
