DeKalb's Wagner Named All-Region in Volleyball at UW-Whitewater

2017 Nov 9

Courtney Wagner, a native of DeKalb, IL, graduate of De Kalb High School and member of the No. 24 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team, was one of four Warhawks who were selected first team All-Midwest Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Senior right side hitter Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot), senior middle hitter Courtney Wagner (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) and junior defensive specialist Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) each garnered first team all-region accolades for the second straight season. All three also earned first team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors.

The trio helped the Warhawks finish the 2017 season with a 22-8 record, including a 5-2 mark in the WIAC regular season. The team reached the WIAC Tournament championship match for the fifth consecutive year.

Racky led the team and ranks sixth in the WIAC with 38 service aces, and is also among the league's top 10 in kills (314 / 2.88 per set) and hitting percentage (.247). She tallied three double-doubles against regionally ranked opponents during the season, including a 21-kill, 14-dig performance in a five-set win over UW-Stevens Point on Sept. 20.

Wagner ranks No. 1 in the conference with 118 blocks (1.07 per set) and holds team highs in both kills (326 / 2.96 per set) and hitting percentage (.283). She posted 10 kills, five digs and a season-high 10 blocks on Oct. 21 in a 3-1 victory over regionally-ranked Texas-Dallas, which reached the NCAA Tournament. Wagner collected a season-high 21 kills on a .486 hitting percentage in a WIAC Tournament triumph at UW-Eau Claire, another regionally ranked opponent.

Robinson, the 2017 WIAC Defensive Player of the Year, leads the WIAC with 5.79 digs per set (643 total) and finished the year with 33 service aces, good for second on the team and 10th in the conference. She tallied 24 or more digs in six of nine matches against regionally-ranked foes, including a season-high 40 in a win against UW-Stevens Point on Sept. 20.
