Dawson Miller, Whitewater native, Finished 86th in 2014 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship

Senior Dawson Miller finished 86th out of 280 runners in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Cross Country Championship at the Kings Island Golf Center in Mason, Ohio November 22.

Miller posted a time of 25:13.1, his third fastest time of the season. The senior earned a spot to compete in the national championship after finishing among the top seven individuals on non-advancing teams at the Midwest Regional. Miller set his personal best time in the regional event crossing the finish line in 24:52.60, the 13th fastest time in UW-Whitewater history.

He was the 33rd Warhawk to finish in the top 35 at regionals in the history of the program. Miller is the first Warhawk to compete in the championships since 2010 when UW-Whitewater sent two men to Waverly, Iowa for the final meet of the season. He is the 38th Warhawk to compete in the national championships on the men's side.

St. Olaf's Grant Wintheiser was the individual national champion with a time of 23:44.9.

A standout on the men's track and field team as well, Miller has finished in the top three of the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In his career, Miller is a six-time national qualifier and an All-American in three different events including the 3,000 meter steeplechase, the one mile run and the distance medley relay.

In cross country, he holds the fourth fastest time by a Warhawk on the UW-Whitewater course, a mark he established this season with a time of 25:49.9.
