Christina Slack conducts undergraduate research at UW-Whitewater

2015 Oct 14

Christina Slack, a sophomore chemistry major from Albrightsville, Pa., was among more than 40 students who presented their work to the campus and Whitewater community at Fall Undergraduate Research Day.

At the event, students display posters and other visuals related to research projects that cover the gamut of disciplines - from the sciences to the visual arts.

Slack presented Silica Dissolution in Molten Salt Solutions to Synthesize Silicide Nanoparticles.

Faculty mentors guide and encourage students throughout their research projects, but the students themselves collect and present the data.

"Just the research itself enhances students' critical thinking and writing skills as well as increases their ability to research independently," said Whitney Supianoski, one of the program's coordinators.
