Chloe Rehberg, a Cary native, competed in the NCGA Individual Finals

2015 Apr 1

Rehberg, a native of Cary, competed in the individual finals of the 2015 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Division III Championships.

Sophomore Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) captured her fourth career individual national title with two event titles at the 2015 NCGA Individual Championships hosted by UW-La Crosse Saturday afternoon. Fiorilli was named Co-NACGC West Region Gymnast of the Year for the second straight season. Senior Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) shared NCGA Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year honors, just the second Warhawk to be recognized with the award.

Fiorilli was the first competitor to vault in the individual finals. The sophomore stuck the landing and registered a score of 9.85, an NCGA meet record, a UW-Whitewater record and a mark that would not be surpassed through the next 17 vaults. She is the third Warhawk to win an individual title in the vault joining Justine Weyer (2008 and 2010) and teammate Courtney Pickett(Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) from a season ago.

On the uneven bars, she swung her way to a 9.8 and a four-way tie for first place to record her fourth career individual title. UW-Whitewater has won the bars title four consecutive seasons and Fiorilli is fourth Warhawk to secure the title. Ashley George was the first Warhawk gymnast to win the bars in 2009 followed by two-time champion Allyse Dieringer (Germantown, WI/Germantown)(2012 and 2014) and Talcott won the event in 2013. Fiorilli captured the all-around title with a total of 38.475 for the second consecutive season. In two years with the Warhawks, Fiorilli is a seven-time All-American including six First Team honors.

Freshman Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) secured her first All-America honor with a runner-up finish on the vault with a career-best 9.725. Talcott, a senior, garnered Second Team All-America recognition with a vault scoring 9.65 to tie for seventh.

After the four-way tie for first on the bars, two Warhawks recorded the second-best score of the evening on the event to tie for fifth. Senior Stephanie Cross (Arizona City, AZ/Casa Grande Union)and sophomore Grayson Esslinger (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh West) put together routines scoring 9.775 for First Team All-America honors. Talcott notched her second All-America honor of the evening with a tenth place finish with a score of 9.725 and Pickett was twelfth with a 9.675 for second team recognition.

Junior Steffi Heuer (Clarksville, TN/Middle College at APSU) was the very competitor of the evening on the balance beam recording the second-best score of her career, a 9.675. Her score held until the final rotation as she took third in the event for her first career All-America honor. Pickett's 9.600 on the beam was seventh for her fifth career All-America honor.

The Warhawks tied for second place in Friday's team and all-around championships. UW-Whitewater totaled 191.225 to tie with Ursinus College as the runner-up. The Warhawks, making their ninth consecutive appearance in the NCGA Championships, have finished in the top two the last five seasons.

Talcott wraps up her career with seven All-America honors including the two earned in 2015. The senior Co-Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year will graduate in May and pursue a career in graphic design.

Three Warhawks have qualified for NCAA Regionals that encompasses all divisions of competition. Fiorilli and Pickett will compete in the all-around and Rehberg is listed as an alternate on the vault in the North Central Region in Ames, Iowa. More information will be posted when available regarding the NCAA Regional competition.
