Carol Stream's Janczak of UW-Whitewater Softball Honored for Academics

Lauren Janczak, a native of Carol Stream, IL, graduate of Bartlett High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team, was one of 13 student-athletes who were named 2016-17 Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Scholar-Athletes.

UW-Whitewater was also recognized by the organization as a 2016-17 Easton/NFCA Division III All-Academic Team.

The Warhawks posted a 3.489 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during the 2016-17 academic year, good for 31st among the 125 Division III institutions recognized.

Thirteen UW-Whitewater players were among the 1,825 in Division III to earn a 3.5 GPA or higher in 2016-17. A record total of 7,365 student-athletes earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors across the NFCA's seven membership divisions.

The Warhawks' honorees included seniors Jessica Kaemerer (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West), Cara Smoczynski (Aurora, Ill./Rosary), junior Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West), sophomores Kelly Berglund(Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls), Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Caitlin Catino (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Molly Ethington (Rock Island, Ill./Alleman Catholic), Lauren Janczak (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett), Emily Rux (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley), freshmen Meg Cohrs(Elburn, Ill./Kaneland), Kylie Hoffman (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley), Mattie Klingenmeyer (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) and Nicole Neitzel (Verona, Wis./Verona Area).

All 13 players helped UW-Whitewater sweep the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships and reach the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth straight season. The Warhawks hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2013 and finished with a 37-9 record, including a perfect 14-0 mark in regular season conference games.

Janczak is majoring in education at UW-Whitewater.
