Callie Barbeau makes UW-Whitewater 2013-14 Jazz Ensemble II

Callie Barbeau, a freshman music major from Fond du Lac, Wis., has been selected as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2013-14 Jazz Ensemble II.

The group, now in its fifth year, prepares students who want to work in music after college, but not as professional musicians. All majors are welcome to audition for the ensemble, which offers learning opportunities tailored to music education majors.

"We have a good crop of students starting in the ensemble this year, with all of them having previous experience in jazz ensembles," said Mike Dugan, director. "With the high level of experience within the ensemble, the material is naturally rising in difficulty, creating larger expectations and bigger musical results."

The ensemble typically plays one concert per semester, but is looking to add more in the future, Dugan said.

The UW-Whitewater Jazz Ensemble II will be playing in the Light Recital Hall in the Greenhill Center of the Arts on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
