Briea Newman named Team Transfer Leader

2013 Oct 4

Briea Newman, a senior international studies major from Mequon, Wis., has been working as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Team Transfer program.

Team Transfer Leaders are UW-Whitewater students with a track record of success in the classroom, on campus and in the community. Each Team Transfer Leader serves as a resource to a group of 60 to 80 new transfer students each year.

"We have a really great group this year," said Amberly Bell, associate student services coordinator for First Year Experience. "With a diverse background and great set of skills, this year's Team Transfer Leaders are motivated to help the incoming class of transfer students in any way they can."

Starting this year, Team Transfer Leaders facilitate a New Student Seminar class that helps transfer students become more accustomed to the campus and what it has to offer.

Each Team Transfer Leader goes through a group and individual interview process until 10 finalists are selected to participate in spring and fall training. They also plan and participate in TRANSFERmation, an exciting two-day orientation program designed for transfer students to meet new people and start out their experiences at UW-Whitewater with positive memories.
