Brett Guendel appointed to SUFAC at UW-Whitewater

2013 Dec 4

Brett Guendel, a senior finance major from Greendale, Wis., has been named to the 2013 Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee (SUFAC) at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

SUFAC has the authority to allocate certain tuition funds to student organizations and activities. The committee includes members appointed by each college dean, along with representatives chosen from the Residence Hall Association and Whitewater Student Government.

"The students on the committee need to remain viewpoint neutral, meaning they can't let their own biases get in the way of the decision-making process," said Brent Bilodeau, adviser. "These segregated fees are for the benefit of the entire student body, and that's what the committee ensures when they are making their decisions as to which organizations receive funding."

Student organizations and departments apply for SUFAC funds each fall, and must go before the committee to elaborate their need for funding. The committee then makes its decisions.

Students on the committee have been mentored in other UW-Whitewater organizations and departments, such as Residence Life and Career & Leadership Development. This level of experience speaks to UW-Whitewater's commitment to student leadership and personal ownership, Bilodeau said.

"The team environment established between the students and faculty involved is outstanding, creating a collaborative environment for all to prosper in," Bilodeau said. "The fact that I get to walk into a student-led SUFAC meeting, where both students and faculty are contributing an equal amount of effort and accomplishing so much is a highlight of my career at UW-Whitewater."
