Brendon Mendoza named McNair Scholar

2013 Oct 14

Brendon Mendoza, a junior general business major from Racine, Wis., has been selected as a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater McNair Scholar.

The program prepares first-generation and multicultural students for graduate studies and eventual careers as university professors. Faculty mentors help them conduct research and improve their critical thinking skills.

"This is one of the most elite programs on campus, where we offer vast support to students to prepare them for graduate studies," said Samantha Samreth, academic network director.

After being selected, each McNair Scholar spends eight weeks at UW-Whitewater during the summer to conduct undergraduate research. Later, they have the opportunity to present at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research and UW-Whitewater Undergraduate Research Day.

The following summer, McNair Scholars participate in research internships at a different university for six to 10 weeks.
