2017 Nov 16

Jordan Newman, a native of Blaine, MN, graduate of St John's Northwestern Military Academy and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team, was named National Wrestler of the Week by D3wrestle.com for his performance last week.

The defending national champion at 184 pounds, Newman wrestled at 197 pounds last week and finished with a 4-1 record.

He started the week with a pin in 58 seconds of Jordan Lemcke to help the Warhawks to a 27-11 dual victory over UW-Oshkosh on Nov. 7 at Kachel Gymnasium.

On Saturday at the Luther Open, he finished as the runner-up at 197 pounds, claiming a 44-second pin over Luther's Hunter Weaver, a fall in 4:13 against Steven Holloway of Division I Iowa and a 2-1 decision over Wartburg's Kyle Fank, the nation's No. 1 wrestler at 197 pounds.

Newman's lone loss of the week was a major decision in the title match against Jacob Warner, an unattached wrestler from Iowa who was the bronze medalist at the Cadet World Championships.

UW-Whitewater continues Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday at 7 p.m. against UW-Stevens Point.
