Benjamin S. Treinen appears in "The Tender Land" at UW-Whitewater

2015 Feb 20

"The Tender Land," a coming-of-age opera based in the 1930s on a Midwestern farm, comes to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a classic production.

Benjamin S. Treinen, a junior theatre performance major from Janesville, Wis., is featured in the ensemble.

"The Tender Land" follows Laurie as she is about to graduate from high school and unexpectedly falls in love. This classic opera by famous American composer Aaron Copeland showcases the exploration of one's self.

"The UW-Whitewater Theatre Department puts on an opera every three years, which requires consultation with the music and dance departments," said Jim Butchart, director and professor of theatre and dance. "It's an invaluable experience for the students to perform in a single production with multiple artistic elements."

The production opens Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at Barnett Theatre in the Greenhill Center of the Arts, and runs until Saturday, Feb. 28.
