Austina Watson Named to UW-Whitewater Homecoming Committee

2012 Sep 24

Austina Watson, a senior social work major from Milwaukee, Wis., has been named to the 2012 Homecoming Steering Committee at UW-Whitewater.

"These volunteers commit to extensive training and to creating a homecoming experience that is unforgettable," said Kimberly Clarksen, leadership adviser. "Their goal is to create memories for all students that will connect them to UW-Whitewater for years beyond graduation."

This year's theme is "Story Time with Willie," and events – from spirit competitions to the parade – will focus on literacy among American children.

Andersen Library will host an event Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6 - 7 p.m., where elementary school students will get together to read their favorite children's books. The parade will begin on Main Street at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20. Later that day, Warhawk football players will take on UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. at Perkins Stadium.

"Members of the Homecoming Steering Committee plan more than 10 events for undergraduate students at UW-Whitewater," Clarksen said. "This eight-month commitment includes everything from selecting the events to planning them to running them safely."
