Aurora's Smoczynski Part of Softball Conference Title at UW-Whitewater

2017 May 1

Cara Smoczynski, a native of Aurora, IL, and graduate of Rosary High School, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team, which clinched the program's 11th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship and the third in the last four years last Friday with two victories at UW-River Falls.

The Warhawks (33-7 overall, 14-0 WIAC), who are ranked 13th in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, also extended their win streak to 10 games over the weekend and wrapped up the No. 1 seed and hosting privileges in this week's WIAC Tournament, which begins Friday.

For the first time since 2009, the UW-Whitewater finished with an unbeaten WIAC record, completing the regular season Saturday with two victories at UW-Stout. The Warhawks are the first conference team since 2010 to post an unblemished mark in league play during the regular season.

Smoczynski, a senior at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in elementary education.
