Arlington Heights's Lotzer Earns CollegeSwimming Honors at UW-Whitewater

Margaret Lotzer, a native of Arlington Heights and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater swimming and diving program, was named CollegeSwimming's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimmers of the Week.

Senior Dan Bielski (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) of the men's team and senior Margaret Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) of the women's team competed against teams representing Division I and Division III on Saturday at the All-Wisconsin Invitational at Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis., the site of the WIAC Championships.

Bielski led the Warhawks in three events, including a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, where he bested 26 other competitors with a time of 1:56.75. He also finished third out of 34 swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke with a result of 53.53 and 10th out of 44 in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 53.52.

Bielski also helped the men's top 200-yard medley relay team place fourth with a time of 1:37.86.

Lotzer led UW-Whitewater in two events, placing fourth out of 25 and first among Division III swimmers with a 5:21.90 in the 500-yard freestyle. She was eighth overall out of 57 entries and first among Division III finishers with a mark of 2;00.55 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Lotzer also finished in the top half of finishers in the 100-yard butterfly with a result of 1:03.64, and was a member of the team's top 400-yard freestyle relay team, which placed fifth with a 3:48.08.

The Warhawks open their home schedule next Friday, Nov. 4, against Carroll in a dual meet at the Williams Center Pool.

Lotzer, a senior at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in elementary education.
