Arlington Heights's Lotzer Earns All-Conference Honors for UW-Whitewater Swimming

Margaret Lotzer, a native of Arlington Heights, Ill., was one of nine members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's swimming and diving program to garner all-conference accolades last week at the three-day Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Sophomore Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson) garnered All-WIAC accolades in the 200-yard breaststroke with a runner-up finish in 2:23.90 and finished as the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:06.57, good for an NCAA "B" cut and all-conference accolades. She added a third-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a result of 4:34.88, also good for an NCAA "B" cut.

Junior Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West) claimed her third straight WIAC championship in the 100-yard butterfly with a school record, WIAC Championship record and NCAA "B" cut time of 55.80 seconds. She also earned all-conference honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:05.66, good for second place.

Senior Margaret Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) highlighted the first day of the week with her first career WIAC championship in the 500-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 5:10.41, more than one second faster than the runner-up. She captured her second individual all-conference standing of the meet with a 17:55.80 in the 1650-yard freestyle.

Senior Sarah Arteaga (Greenfield/Whitnall) finished as runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley to earn All-WIAC with a school record and NCAA "B" cut time of 4:32.89.

Sophomore Melanie Carlson (Waukesha, Wis./West) highlighted the final night with a WIAC championship performance in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 2:09.94.

Freshman Meredith Gustafson (Brookfield, Wis./East) joined Carlson as an all-conference performer with a 2:10.33, good for second place.

The Warhawks' 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Renata Schlomann (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels), Hawker, Matthys and Arteaga earned All-WIAC honors by placing second in the conference with a time of 3:53.04.

Schlomann, Hawker, Matthys and senior Gabby Swider (Milwaukee/St. Thomas More) combined to place second in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:45.88.

Lotzer, senior Grace Devine (Sussex/Hamilton), Arteaga and Hawker replicated the All-WIAC performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a 7:48.10, good for second place.
