Arlington Heights's Catino Part of WIAC championship, NCAA appearance for UW-Whitewater Softball

Caitlin Catino, a native of Arlington Heights, IL, and graduate of Buffalo Grove High School, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team, which swept the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships for the second straight season and will host a four-team NCAA Regional starting this Friday at van Steenderen Softball Complex.

Catino, a junior at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in marketing.

The Warhawks clinched their fourth regular season conference championship in five years on April 29 with a doubleheader sweep at UW-La Crosse.

As WIAC champion, UW-Whitewater clinched the No. 1 seed and hosting privileges for the WIAC Championship, which took place over the weekend. The Warhawks won the five-team tournament for the sixth straight season and 10th time overall to claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

UW-Whitewater was announced as a host of a four-team NCAA Regional for the second straight season on Monday.

The Warhawks (25-11-1 overall) will face Benedictine (Ill.), the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champion, to open play. The other game will feature a pair of Pool "C", or at-large, qualifiers in Coe (Iowa) and Trine (Ind.).

UW-Whitewater has won six straight games and 18 of its last 23 games entering NCAA play. The team claimed the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship and clinched the league's automatic bid by winning the WIAC Tournament title for the sixth straight year and 10th time overall over the weekend.

The Warhawks are making their 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
