Appleton Native Witt Named National Track Athlete of the Week at UW-Whitewater

2016 Jan 19

Parker Witt, a native of Appleton, WI, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's indoor track and field team, was named NCAA Division III Mens Track National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for competition from January 11-17.

A graduate of Appleton North High School, Witt compiled times of 6.87 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 22.40 seconds in the 200-meter dash, good for the second-fastest result in NCAA Division III in each event. The personal best marks were also No. 1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Witt bested four Division I competitors to win the 60 and placed second in the 200 to help the 11th-ranked Warhawks win the four-team Karl Schlender Invitational last Saturday at Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater.

A finance major at UW-Whitewater, Witt qualified in the 100- and 200-meter dashes for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships last spring. He currently holds the school record in the outdoor 100-meter dash (10.61 seconds).

The Warhawks continue competition this Friday at the North Central (Ill.) Cardinal Opener.
