Alexander Zalewski part of award-winning DECA team at UW-Whitewater

Alexander Zalewski from Franklin, Wis., who is majoring in marketing, contributed to a commanding performance by the UW-Whitewater Collegiate DECA team at the Wisconsin Collegiate DECA State Conference, and will advance to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California, in April.

Twenty-five members of the UW-Whitewater team traveled to the state conference in Delavan, Wisconsin, where they earned a total of 81 awards in a variety of individual and team events.

Zalewski and his team were national qualifiers in the Advertising Campaign category.

Frank Lanko, team adviser and senior business career adviser for the UW-Whitewater College of Business and Economics, said, "Our students put in some truly amazing work this year, and we were fortunate to have received support from faculty and staff across the university. Their efforts paid big dividends, and I'm extremely proud of the entire team."

In addition to individual and team awards, UW-Whitewater Collegiate DECA earned two chapter awards: first-place for Wisconsin Collegiate DECA Membership, and second-place for Civic Consciousness.

Collegiate DECA is an international association that helps prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Students put their experience, skills and knowledge to the test at competitive events judged by business and industry professionals.
