Saint Charles Native Flesher Recognized at UW-Whitewater Campus Awards

Brooke Flesher, a Saint Charles, IL, native and student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was honored May 3 at the institution's annual Campus Awards Program.

The Warhawks' men's cross country and women's golf teams were recognized as winners of the Highest Sport Grade Point Average.

Women's swimming and diving senior Brooke Flesher garnered two awards. She received the James R. Connor Leadership Grant and the Distinguished Student Leader award, the highest leadership honor bestowed on an individual student for a variety of significant leadership roles during college.

Golf senior Kate Winkler was named winner of the Peter J. Barrett Student Integrity Award for visibly demonstrating her commitment to the campus values, specifically showing her commitment to personal and professional integrity.

Football senior Mykaell Bratchett earned Greek Man of the Year Award honors for his comprehensive dedication to the Greek system, UW-Whitewater, service, academics and all that is virtuous of Greek Life.

Golf senior Sarah Bregant was one of several students to receive a Student Involvement Award.

Baseball senior Mike Mierow was selected Male Student-Athlete of the Year, while softball senior Jo Jablonski was chosen Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Flesher, a four-year member of the swimming and diving program, is majoring in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in psychology. A three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member, Flesher is a 2014-15 Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete and an active volunteer on campus. She is involved in the Community Clothes Closet, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Intercollegiate Athletics Committee.

Winkler is a four-year member of the golf program and is majoring in integrated science and business with a water resource emphasis. She is a three-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and is active in several campus organizations, including Whitewater Student Government, Water Council and SAAC.

Bratchett, an integrated science business major, helped lead the Warhawk football team to three NCAA Division III championships during his four-year career. He was a starter on the 2013 and 2014 WIAC and national title teams. A two-time All-WIAC honoree, Bratchett finished the 2014 season with team highs in sacks (10.5) and tackles for loss (13.5).

Bregant has been highly involved on campus during her four-year career. She is a City of Whitewater Common Council representative and a volunteer with the nursing home visitation program. On campus, Bregant is a member of the Whitewater Student Government, College Democrats, American Association of University Women and the Water Council. She is majoring in public policy and administration with a minor in urban and area development. A three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member, Bregant was a Scholar All-America selection by the Women's Golf Coaches Association in 2013-14.

Jablonski is a two-time first team all-conference selection and four-year member of the softball team. An elementary education major with a minor in Spanish, Jablonski has helped lead the Warhawks to three consecutive WIAC Tournament titles and a third-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship. She has served as SAAC president during the 2014-15 year and has volunteered in Reading with the Warhawks and as a peer mentor. For the last three years, Jablonski has earned WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete honors.

Mierow is a three-year starter and four-year member of the baseball team. He was named first team all-league and second team all-region a season ago, helping lead UW-Whitewater to the WIAC regular season and tournament titles and the program's second-ever national championship. A two-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Mierow is majoring in finance. A 2015 captain, he has helped lead the Warhawks to their third straight conference regular season title.

In addition, former softball player Kelly McGrail earned the McGraw Award, given to "an outstanding, well-rounded UW-Whitewater graduate ready for the world of professional work and one who potentially appears ready to contribute in a positive way to society." McGrail, a member of the softball team from 2011-14, graduated in December and was selected the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete in 2014. She is pursuing a career in special education.
